2025 Gamay - Cellar Door exclusive
Taste and purchase this new release in our Adelaide Hills Cellar Door, open 7 days.
The second vintage from our estate grown Gamay vines in the cool southern Adelaide Hills. The fruit was clean, ripe and in great condition at harvest. Following hand picking 25% of the grapes were loaded in to the fermenter as whole bunches, the rest gently de-stemmed.
This feels like Gamay with a bit of swagger—bright, lifted, and just untamed enough to keep things interesting. The nose opens on a rush of red licorice and wild strawberries, quickly joined by a tumble of foraged berries and a dusting of light spice. There’s an earthy hum beneath it all—black tea leaves, a smudge of graphite, alpine herb garden energy—before a flicker of rose petal brings it back into prettiness.
The palate is all about crunch and charm. Pomegranate seeds pop alongside a cascade of red fruits, skating into that glace cherry zone without ever tipping into confection. There’s a savoury edge that reins it in nicely, with a whisper of anise curling through the back half. Texture is where it really wins you over: soft, grainy tannins that feel almost slippery at first, then gently assert with a sappy grip. They carry a quiet sweetness—not sugary, but generous—giving the wine a sense of plushness and flow that makes it dangerously easy to keep going back for another sip. UNCTUOUS!
Bright in colour with a vibrant hue, this cool climate Gamay shows an abundance of bright red fruits and floral aromatics. The medium bodied palate is bright and crunchy, with juicy, ripe red and black cherry fruit flavours, moderate tannins and a long, crisp and refreshing finish. Following 4 days of cold soaking on skins the fermentation commenced and the skins were gently plunged to extract colour and flavour from the skins. Following fermentation, the wine was pressed to old French oak barrels where it aged on light lees for 10 months after which it was carefully racked and bottled. Drinks well as a young wine but has the depth of flavour to cellar well for 5 or more years.
